The Right Way to Get from Incheon Airport to Seoul Depends on When You Land
There are four main ways to get from Incheon Airport to Seoul: the AREX express train, the AREX all-stop train, the airport limousine bus, and a taxi or private transfer. Each one is the right answer in a different situation.
The AREX express is fastest and most convenient if your hotel is near Seoul Station or anywhere connected to subway Lines 1 or 4. The all-stop train is cheaper and covers more neighborhoods including Hongdae (Hongik University Station). The airport bus is slower but drops you closer to hotels in areas the train does not directly reach. A taxi is the right choice late at night when trains have stopped running or when you are traveling with heavy luggage to a specific address.

Option 1 — AREX Express Train (직통열차)
The AREX express runs non-stop between Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and Seoul Station in 43 minutes. It also stops at Terminal 2 (approximately 8 minutes before Terminal 1) on the Seoul-bound direction — but makes no other stops in between.
Cost: ₩13,000 per person (standard fare at counter or ticket machine). Online booking through platforms like Klook or Creatrip offers discounts of approximately 10 to 15% — around ₩11,000 to ₩11,500. T1 and T2 fares are the same. Purchase tickets at the AREX ticket counters or self-service machines in the arrivals hall. International credit cards are accepted at the counter; ticket machines sometimes decline non-Korean cards — use the counter if this happens.
Frequency: every 30 to 40 minutes. Operating hours: first train approximately 5:15 AM, last train from Terminal 2 at approximately 10:40 PM, Terminal 1 at approximately 10:48 PM. Check current schedule at arex.or.kr before travel.
Option 2 — AREX All-Stop Train (일반열차)
The all-stop version of the AREX makes 9 stops between the airport and Seoul Station, including Gimpo Airport and several western Seoul neighborhoods. Journey time: approximately 66 minutes to Seoul Station.
Cost: ₩4,750 from Terminal 1, ₩5,350 from Terminal 2 (with T-Money card). Significantly cheaper than the express — the right choice for budget travelers or those whose hotel is near one of the intermediate stops including Hongdae (Hongik University Station), Digital Media City, or Gimpo Airport area.
Transfers at Seoul Station connect to Lines 1 and 4, and from there to virtually every part of the city. The all-stop train uses the same platforms as the express — check the destination board before boarding.
Option 3 — Airport Limousine Bus (리무진버스)
Airport limousine buses run direct routes from Incheon Airport to specific hotel clusters and neighborhoods across Seoul. Unlike the train, buses go directly to destinations like Gangnam, Insadong, Dongdaemun, and Itaewon without requiring a subway transfer at Seoul Station.
Cost: ₩17,000 to ₩25,000 depending on route and distance. Purchase tickets at the bus information counters in the arrivals hall or at the bus stop kiosks outside. T-Money and cash accepted.
Journey time: 60 to 90 minutes in normal traffic. During rush hour (7 to 9 AM, 6 to 8 PM), add 30 to 60 minutes. Night arrivals on a bus are significantly faster than daytime arrivals.
Best for: travelers staying in Gangnam, Jamsil, or eastern Seoul neighborhoods where the AREX train requires a lengthy onward subway journey. Also useful when traveling with enough luggage that a subway transfer feels impractical.

Option 4 — Taxi or Private Transfer
Taxis from Incheon Airport to central Seoul: ₩60,000 to ₩80,000 in a standard taxi. Journey time: approximately 60 to 75 minutes in moderate traffic.
Kakao T (the standard taxi app) works from Incheon Airport — book before you exit baggage claim if you want to avoid the taxi queue. Kakao Black (premium) runs ₩90,000 to ₩120,000 but provides a larger vehicle with more luggage space.
When a taxi makes sense:
Late night arrivals when the AREX has stopped running (after approximately 11:40 PM). Groups of 3 or 4 people splitting the cost — ₩20,000 per person for a taxi compares reasonably to ₩9,500 each on the AREX plus additional subway costs. Travelers with large amounts of luggage for whom a subway transfer at Seoul Station with multiple bags is impractical.
Two options remain after the AREX stops:
Night owl buses (올빼미 버스): Routes N6000, N6001, and N6002 run from Incheon Airport to central Seoul through the night. Cost: approximately ₩17,000 to ₩18,000 — the same price range as standard daytime limousine buses, but significantly cheaper than a taxi. These are the best option for budget-conscious late arrivals. Check current routes and times at the airport bus information counter or at airport.kr before departure.
Taxi: Available 24 hours. Cost ₩70,000 to ₩80,000 to central Seoul. Kakao T works from the airport — book before exiting baggage claim. Best when traveling with heavy luggage or in a group of 3 to 4.

Getting from Terminal 1 vs Terminal 2
Incheon Airport has two terminals. Terminal 1 handles most international carriers. Terminal 2 handles Korean Air, Delta, Air France, KLM, and Garuda Indonesia.
Check your ticket before arrival to confirm which terminal you land at. The AREX stops at both terminals. On the Seoul-bound direction, Terminal 2 is the starting point — the train departs T2 first, stops at T1 approximately 8 minutes later, then heads directly to Seoul Station. Both terminals have the same transport options at similar prices.
If you need to transfer between terminals after landing: a free shuttle bus runs between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 approximately every 5 to 7 minutes. Journey time: approximately 15 minutes.
Practical Tips
Buy your AREX ticket or T-Money top-up before leaving the arrivals hall. The ticket machines are immediately after the baggage claim exit. Do not wait until you reach the train platform — the machines there can be busy during peak arrival periods.
If you have a T-Money card from a previous Korea trip, top it up at the convenience store in the arrivals hall and use it directly on the AREX all-stop train. The express train requires a separate express ticket even if you are paying with T-Money.
For luggage delivery: Incheon Airport offers a luggage transfer service (Airport to Hotel) that delivers your bags to your Seoul hotel while you travel light on the train. Price: approximately ₩13,000 to ₩25,000 per bag. Book at the luggage service counter in the arrivals hall.
